Jonathan is a graduate in Economics from Essex University and has a Masters Degree in Environmental Economics from University College London.
After graduating from University, Jonathan lived in Japan where he established an Anglo-Japanese export company. He ran the UK arm of the company successfully for four years before returning to academia to undertake his Masters degree.
In 1991, Jonathan joined the UK Centre for Economic and Environmental Development (UK CEED) to work on a number of business-focused environmental projects. Initial clients included BT, British Airways, IBM and UK Nirex and over the next eight years he led the Centre’s work on environmental policy, information and communications technologies, transport, energy and environmental technology.
Jonathan was appointed Chief Executive in 1999 and led the organisation through a period of growth and enhanced national profile. He developed and launched a number of the Centre’s key initiatives including: the UK’s first environment sector business cluster; EnviroDaq and SustainIT. In 2004, he established UK CEED’s first spin-out venture, the Centre for Sustainable Engineering, which focuses on bringing emerging environmental technologies to market. He also co-authored a report for government which analyses the UK and global market for environmental goods and services. Jonathan left UK CEED in 2008 and is now the Managing Director of Lark Energy.
